How exciting it is as a parent of little ones to experience SO MANY FIRSTS this summer. We’ve taken them camping for the first time (blogging about that next), they learned to swim, bike, fish and Hunter is riding his very own 4-wheeler! And just last week, they got to experience their very first (semi-pro) baseball game with us and all 4 grandparents. Their first actual baseball game was probably one in which their daddy was playing. (They are his biggest fans, yelling “hi Daddy” from the bleachers.) 🙂
So, I received an email advertising the Indianapolis Indians Nickelodeon weekend where the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were going to be there! I got super excited as soon as I read the email and instantly asked my husband, parents and in-laws if they were interested.
Funny enough, all 8 of us fit into my big, blue SUV (aka bus) which was actually very convenient for the ride up and back. Everything about the day was perfect including the weather. On the way up from Bloomington to Indy, we met up with some of our best friends and their 2 little boys and had a big BBQ lunch. The ballpark gates opened at 5:30 for the 7:10 PM game and the first 2500 children to enter the gate received TMNT backpacks with goodies!

Heroes in a half shell!
So many things added to the excitement of the game! This is what summer fun is all about- being with friends and family, meeting the TMNT, Rowdie the mascot, their backpacks, popcorn & cotton candy! This was the first of many trips- I can see us going every summer for a wonderful dose of Americana. Maybe next time we will catch their Friday night fireworks! They are still a bit young to actually sit and watch the game for very long but we were able to entertain them enough to still enjoy the whole experience.
The Indianapolis Indians Victory Field is the most attended minor league team ballpark in the country. I highly recommend you visit their beautiful facility in the heart of downtown Indy (and next to my favorite local hotel, the JW) and see a game if you’re in the area. Visit Indy Indians baseball
We even got to celebrate a birthday!! Happy Birthday Nana Oliver!
