Life is full of ups and downs.
So much, the good, bad and the ugly- it happens to all of us. But please friends, don’t dwell on the bad. In the wise words of my fantastic and wonderful Uncle John on our phone conversation tonight, you have to see your glass half full. (I know this; you know I know this, I post an Optimism billboard on my facebook page for goodness sake) BUT sometimes, we all need a heart to heart to remind us of what is important and to help us see and think clearly. I have been inspired by my phone call this evening. No matter what your obstacles may be, keep on moving forward. Many of you inspire me- when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.
And having a good heart to heart, a truly meaningful conversation with a good friend or family member can change your perspective. It is so much more productive than “just talking about the weather”.
ALWAYS remember you are not the only one with obstacles, hurdles in your life. Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle. – Plato Maybe someone you know is wearing a smile but inside they could be battling something. So just be pleasant to everyone you encounter. More wise words from my uncle, he explains he always remembers to “Treat everyone just how you want to be treated. Then you will hardly have to be sorry”. Words to live by.
And I am sure you are wondering, why this topic? What’s going on? I am not speaking specifically but very generally to myself and to all of us. Man- what a tough winter is has been, but we are absolutely looking forward to spring so
Happy March everyone!
And with that said, I’m writing from Jacksonville, the SUNSHINE state with some good news. A reason to look forward to spring, and summer and dare I say it? Traveling less!
You may recall my enthusiasm from my posts on authorspeak (see November). https://kimberlagrace.wordpress.com/2011/11/01/authorspeak-update-from-indy-day-1/ Yes, I elaborated quite a bit and clearly I was excited… that was an event to remember. Well, I proposed to my boss, to oversee this specific event and take on the event manager role. With acceptance came more good news. In order to physically allow more time to add this responsibilities to my plate, I have been advised to TRAVEL LESS! After 5 years of averaging 15 trips or 70 days on the road a year, this is what I have been hoping, wishing and praying for. I don’t take my job for granted. I realize I have been fortunate to be able to travel this beautiful country for a living. And now? Now, I just need to spend more time at home.
So maybe I am not Mrs. Sunshine Traveler, but I am ok with that… still keeping my Sunshine.
I also wanted to share other news, I received a letter in the mail Monday afternoon, February 27th. I passed my Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) exam. I’m thrilled to have the credentials. https://kimberlagrace.wordpress.com/2012/01/08/things-ive-learned/ All of that studying has paid off. Josh took me out to lobster dinner to celebrate.
Things are looking up. Spring has something in store for you. Remember to stop and smell the roses. 😉
Kim, that is great news about your new job opportunities and responsibilities and that you passed the exam! Hard work pays off.
I like the quote from Plato – I often forget a smile can cover up so much we may never know.
Lets get together soon!
