I decided to start a new series here on my blog while on maternity leave. My purpose is to journal and detail the precious time with a newborn as well as the adjustments to life as a family of four. (As I plan to write in my minimal spare time, during naps, I hope to be as detailed as possible, leaving little time for editing so excuse that now.)
Deacon David was born on Thursday, January 8th at 2:09 PM. He was 21 inches and much to all of our surprise, he was a whopping 9 pounds! (birth day story to come) Both my and Josh’s parents and his sister were in our house with Hunter as we brought Deacon home from the hospital. We felt it would be best to have Hunter in our home where he is most comfortable as we didn’t quite know how he would react to his new baby brother. A few iPhones and my video camera caught the introduction of our two sons. I must say, I am so glad we did this. What could be more precious to have on video? Personally, I have watched the movie (more than anyone) over and over again. It makes me tear up or cry every. single. time.
In the video, Hunter is speechless. He doesn’t say anything. As Josh opened the infant carseat, Hunter looked in there and took a few steps back. What a surprise for him. He then got closer and knelt down in front of Deacon. He patted his foot, the closest thing to him and was intrigued! Josh did such a great job facilitating the introduction.
The part that gets me the most? Once Hunter realizes we have a baby, he smiles at Dad, hugs him and then runs over to hug me. Of course I will never know why but I will take that as him thanking us for his new baby brother. Hunter is a sweetheart and although today is only Day 12 of us being home, he hasn’t shown any signs of jealousy, wants to be helpful, get excited to see him, kisses and hugs and only said “bye bye baby” once.
There was a time when I felt so happy and content with Hunter as our first and only son, I wondered how I could have more room in my already full heart. Now we know the true meaning: LOVE MULTIPLIES.
