I really didn’t realize how cool the total eclipse would be! We live in the path of totality and the boys had off from school today in anticipation of many visitors to our town and thus traffic. Here in Southern Indiana, we saw Wisconsin, Nebraska, Minnesota, Illinois, California and Michigan license plates on the road today. Yesterday I saw plates from Pennsylvania, New York and North Carolina! We were told to expect all hotels to be sold out and as many as 300,000 visitors!

Today was a beautiful spring day in the 70’s and hardly any clouds and so the boys played outside all day. They even decided to put up a tent and load up a survival kit aka snacks, a notebook, rope, cards to play, pocket knife, drinks and so forth. Their schools gave out eclipse viewing glasses and we had those handly in anticipation for the big event at 3:08 PM. It was perfect weather for a solar eclipse!

I really didn’t understand the hype and didn’t think it would be much of a big deal. We had a partial eclipse here in 2017 and while it got a little dark here, it was quick and then over, from what I remember.
Well today I was really surprised at how amazing the eclipse was. It began to get dark a bit around 2:30 and then darker and darker until it was as dark as night! Neighbors shot off fireworks and it was eerily quiet. The temperature dropped quickly too! We all cheered and enjoyed the nearly 4 minutes of totality.
I quickly realized this was a memorable event and I was so grateful for the time at home as a family to enjoy this together. It was absolutely amazing. I was so surprised! The boys were floored too! “Mom, Dad! It was SO dark outside!”

We then enjoyed family time together at home. The boys all went mushroom hunting because this is southern Indiana after all. We grilled out and the boys each got showered after a long day full of playing and enjoying outdoors. I hope they remember this for a long time.
Josh asked a man with out of state plates if it was worth the drive. He said he is actually from southern California and that it was Definitely worth it! Wow.
It was a great end to a 3 day weekend for our boys.

PS- last night we had a PJ party since it was a long weekend for the boys. All I had to do was say, “Hey, guys! Let’s all wear fun PJs tonight and watch a movie and make popcorn since tomorrow you have off for the eclipse!” They instantly put on their favorite pjs and were acting goofy for our home PJ party. We had big laughs. ❤️

Such a memorable day. The boys will remember this day forever.
